Barcelona was not the only one to lose from the injury of its Brazilian international player Philippi Coutinho recently, but the loss of Liverpool, the former club of the player, may be greater, as he will be denied the amount of 20 million euros due to Coutinho's injury.
Coutinho's injury harms Liverpool
Barcelona announced, last Wednesday, that its midfielder, Felipe Coutinho, had suffered an injury "in the articular cartilage of his left knee," and would subsequently undergo "arthroscopic surgery in the next few days."
Coutinho entered the 60th minute of the Barcelona match, in which he finished the year 2020 in sixth place in the league standings after his 1-1 draw at home with Eibar.
The Brazilian was injured in the stoppage time of the sixteenth stage match, forcing Ronald Koeman's team to complete the last seconds with ten players after using his five substitutions.
Early end
Coutinho's injury may end his season early, as he needs at least 4 months to recover from it, after medical examinations showed it was more dangerous than expected.
And if Barcelona had lost an important player at a time of successive misfortune this season, Liverpool would lose 20 million euros that it would have received during the current season if the Brazilian player played 10 new matches.
According to the Spanish newspaper AS , the contract for Coutinho's transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona stipulates that the "Catalan" club pay 20 million euros for the "Reds" as soon as the player completes 100 matches for the "Blaugrana" shirt, noting that Eibar's match was the player's 90th match.
Accordingly, Liverpool needed to play Coutinho 10 new matches to win 20 million euros, which would have revived his treasury in a difficult period that all European clubs are currently going through due to the repercussions of the spread of the new Corona virus.
Coutinho played 14 games with Barcelona this season, scoring three goals with two decisive passes, and his absence, whose duration was not specified by the "Catalan" club, would constitute another blow to the team that is already struggling this season.
Coutinho had moved to Barcelona from Liverpool in 2018 for 120 million euros, with variables reaching 40 million euros, half of which required the player's participation in 100 matches with his new team.
Liverpool will wait next season to achieve its goal, but faces the possibility of being completely deprived of obtaining the amount, amid reports suggesting the possibility of Barcelona selling the Brazilian player in the next summer transfer period.
Expectations to sell Coutinho
And the Catalan newspaper Sport said , Barcelona is considering selling Coutinho, to get rid of the financial burden caused by the Brazilian player, explaining that the club's having to pay 20 million euros as soon as Coutinho completes 100 matches is a nightmare for his responsibility, due to the huge amount, and expectations of selling him for a fee that will not exceed half What was paid for his annexation.
In addition, the Barcelona administration wants to provide Coutinho's huge salary that the player gets, without much benefit from it, noting that he fought last season with Bayern Munich , and returned to Barcelona last summer, without leaving a clear imprint on the performance of the team under the coach's leadership Dutch Ronald Koeman.
During the 90th game before Coutinho was injured, the Brazilian scored 23 goals and provided 14 assists, and it seemed that he did not find himself with the team.
